Where to stay

  • Chora (Mykonos Town): Rochari Hotel Mykonos, The TownHouse Mykonos
  • Platis Gialos: Argo Hotel. We have nothing but positive things to say about our stay at Argo in Platis Gialos. I highly recommend staying at this particular hotel in the Platis Gialos area as it was convenient to the bus, close to both Platis Gialos beach and Psarou beach, and the hotel had all the ammenities we were looking for like beautiful spacious rooms, Greek breakfast, a pool, and a coffee shop on site. Also, the hotel had a restaurant, Avli Thou Thodori, down on the beach where you could get 10% off your meal if you mentioned you were staying at the hotel.
  • Platis Gialos: Branco. Stunning hotel on prime breach front real estate in Platis Gialos. Branco is its own oasis not to mention all the perks of having surrounding beach beach clubs and restaurants a few steps away.
  • Psarou: Mykonos Blu. Another gorgeous option for those who want to be directly on Psarou beach but still have all the luxuries of convenience. Mykonos Blu is on the opposite side of the road from Argo Hotel with direct access to Psarou beach and also access to the bus stop in between Argo and the entrance to Mykonos Blu. Therefore, guests have easy access to all the amenities offered at both Platis Gialos and Psarou. Myknos Blu has gorgeous suites and fantastic views of the water and Psarou beach. The only possible downside could be the noise from nearby beach club, Nammos. We could barely hear the music Nammos at our hotel but it was much louder once we crossed the street and onto Mykonos Blu grounds.
  • Psarou/Platis Gialos: Petasos Beach Resort and Spa and Hotel Petinos Mykonos were two other options we were considering.
  • Airbnb: There are many lovely airbnbs in Mykonos Town or in a more remote location of the island depending on your preferences.

A quick note about where to stay and the geography of Mykonos

Chora (Mykonos Town): The main attraction in Mykonos for shopping, nightlife, dining, and more! Chora is nearby the ferry port and airport. There are no cars allowed within the city limits (they wouldn’t even fit with how narrow the streets are!) so you can enjoy getting lost within the winding maze of streets. Little Venice is a part of Chora and it sits on the coastline jammed full of bars and places to eat while watching the sun go down. Staying within or nearby Chora may get loud at night, however, it is not the only location for nightlife. Many luxurious and popular clubs are located on the beaches as well.

Platis Gialos: Our pick for where to stay in Mykonos! It is located due south and slightly east of Chora on the southern coastline of the island. Platis Gialos is a perfect beach spot for couples or young families wanting luxury and convenience. Platis Gialos is within walking distance to Nammos or Scorpios but it is far enough away to have some reprieve from the partying. Also it has a direct line to Fabrika, which is the Chora stop on the bus. Since we stayed right in the main town of Oia in Santorini we wanted to do a bit of the opposite and relax in a beach town instead of being right in Chora. I could not recommend this location enough!

Psarou: It is also on the southern coastline but slightly west of Platis Gialos. Similarly, to Platis Gialos, Psarou has the conveience factor due to it’s location. However, Psarou is far more exclusive. The cove was filled yachts and sports boats alike. Not to mention the infamous Nammos dominates the beach.

These are just the main areas that we spent time in, however, there are many more options and different experiences in other areas of Mykonos like Ornos Beach, Agios Ioannis Beach, and Elia Beach!

How to get around

  • Car transfers to/from airport and hotel – Welcome Pickups
  • Metro/Bus: The bus system is quite easy and convenient on Mykonos! The fare is extremely inexpensive and the bus system is well connected. The Platis Gialos – Fabrika (Mykonos Town) line was right outside of our hotel!
  • Hire a private car or taxi: You could very well hire a private car or take a taxi to see the island, although I do not think it is as necessary as on Santorini.
  • Water taxi: If is common to beach hop and take a water taxi from one beach to another. This also cuts down on transportation time in comparison to catching the bus.
  • ATV: Mykonos is far more developed and well connected than Santorini. The roads are wider and there are not cliffs like there are in Santorini. I would recommend renting an ATV to explore Mykonos as it is a much easier environment to drive in.
  • Walk: Depending on where you are staying, you can walk a good amount between beaches or in Mykonos Town. You won’t be able to get everywhere by foot though!
  • Ferry: The ferry port () is nearby Mykonos Town. While it is close, I wouldn’t recommend trying to walk there with all your luggage if you are staying in town. Hop on the bus or schedule a ride with your hotel shuttle! We used FerryHopper again to book our ferry back to Athens.
  • Fly: Mykonos International Airport is centrally located in between Mykonos Town and many popular beaches.

Where to eat

  •  Platis Gialos:
  • Chora:
    • Nice N Easy: Large, outdoor restaurant view sweeping views of the coast on Little Venice. It was a delicious and convenient option, we loved it so much we went twice!
    • Scarpa: Popular bar on Little Venice, you can’t go wrong with any of the bars in the area, but we did love our drinks and the view here!
    • Negrita: Iconic Mykonos. Definitely worth a stop for a photo op!
    • Kastro’s Restaurant: Another quintessential Mykonos spot where the little alleyway meets the sea.
    • There are many other lovely places to eat off of the main drag of Little Venice, we just coincidentally stumbled over there to eat because of the views!
    • 180 Degrees Sunset Bar: Pushed inland from Chora, this bar has terraced sweeping views of the town and sea.

What to do

  • Take a sailing trip around the island or to Delphi Island.
  • Spend a day at one of the beach clubs: Branco, Scorpios, Iconic Nammos, and more!
  • Go shopping in Mykonos town
  • Dance on the tables at Nammos
  • Check out the windmills
  • Go bar hopping in Mykonos town, we ended up at Skandinavian Bar every. single. night!
  • Drive around the Island

Itinerary

After our ferry from Santorini, we were picked up by our hotel shuttle from Argo Hotel. After checking in and getting settled we hopped on the bus and explored Chora for the afternoon. Once we got hungry, we enjoyed the most delicious pasta at Nice N Easy before heading back out to some bars.

The next morning we enjoyed the fantastic Greek breakfast by the pool of our hotel before exploring the grounds and Platis Gialos a bit more. Once we changed we headed down to the beach. We stopped by a few of the different clubs before settling on Branco. We were very pleased by the overall aesthetic, menu options, and music they had during the morning.

The host helped us pick a pair of beds, since we were fairly early (about 10:30 or 11:00am) we had plenty of choices. The beds were oversized and adjustable, with and umbrella and small table between them. They set up the Branco towels for us and left us with the drink and food menu. I highly recommend going early if you are going to stay at a popular beach club as it became almost entirely full around 1pm. We chose a pair of beds about 4 or 5 rows back from the water and closest to the boardwalk. I believe the pair of beds we chose was about 120 Euros. The closer you are to the water the more expensive the beds are and vice versa.

You can easily choose less expensive beds at another club or bring your own towel to sit on the public section of the beaches. However, we thought that Branco was well worth the money and that it was fairly priced. The Atmosphere was upscale, yet laid back, and the music increased throughout the day without becoming overly obnoxious. The food and drinks are excellent and the service was impeccable. They were very attentive to bring us anything we needed or help adjust the beds and umbrellas.

After lounging in the sun all day, swimming, and eating the best shrimp tacos of my life, we decided to freshen up and walk over to Nammos in the late afternoon.

How to get to Nammos from Platis Gialos

Once we exited our hotel we cut through the parking area of Mykonos Blu in search of the “path” we heard about that connects the road going into Platis Gialos to the beach of Psarou. We did find the path but it had fallen away in the middle and didn’t want to take our chances slipping down the rocks and dirt on the hill. We did discover though that the grounds of Mykonos Blu connect the road of Platis Gialos (opposite of our hotel entrace) to the beach of Psarou. Just continue going downwards through the grounds of Mykonos Blu until you eventually hit the stairs that go down to the beach. Once on the beach, simply walk to Nammos!

We had such a good time the day before at Branco that we decided to go back and spend another day lounging in the sun. Again we got up and enjoyed the hotel breakfast before grabbing beds at Branco. After a lovely day in the sun we decided to head back to the hotel for a little rest and freshen up. We went back to Nammos for drinks and then took the bus into town. We bar hopped along Little Venice and ended the night at Skandinavian Bar.

Our time in Mykonos went by too fast and we had to be off again. After enjoying the hotel breakfast I decided to have a lazy morning by the pool before check out. I grabbed a bed at the hotel pool and enjoyed some coffee from the coffee bar nearby.

After we cleaned up and checked out, we had the hotel hold our bags while we had lunch at Yialo-Yialo on Platis Gialos. Everything was so fresh and delicious! By then it was time to take our hotel shuttle to the ferry port for our ferry back to Athens.
